SAY HELLO A HYDERABADI MOSQUE : THE JAMA MASJID

It is almost impossible to think of the city of Hyderabad without thinking of its fragrant, delicious biryani, or of the city’s iconic Charminar monument. Located close to the Charminar is one of the city’s other popular landmarks, the Jama Masjid.

Built by Quli Qutub Shah in 1857, the Jama Masjid is still one of the main places of worship in the city. Many moons ago, it housed a school renowned for its Islamic education and a monastery inside its premises, but they no longer exist today. Its architecture style is characteristic of Qutub Shahi era, with stately white towers that tower slightly above the Charminar.  Its uniqueness is enclosed within its walls – a beautiful Turkish bath.

Every Sunday, a large number of devotees and tourists throng the mosque to participate in the rituals. Be sure to pay this historic mosque a visit and experience for yourself a sense of peace and harmony. The month of August is the best time to visit, particularly around Eid.

Don’t forget to treat yourself to Sheer Khurma, a traditional vermicelli pudding made from dry dates. Usually served as breakfast on the morning of Eid after prayers, this special dish is sure to make your taste buds tingle with delight for a long time.
