Every year, the GReaT Foodie team launches a calendar that’s so unique, it demands a big celebration. Last year we put our heads together to bring out an Astro Calendar, matching food with sun-signs. This year, true to our ‘Promise Of More,’ we present A Taste Of The Year Ahead!
2017’s theme celebrates unique methods used across our signature restaurants – slow cooking, nitrogen freezing, molecular gastronomy, steaming, dum and tandoor cooking to name just a few. The beautiful calendar has been conceptualised to present a different technique every month, along with an easy to follow DIY recipe video.
We’re going to be featuring a cool recipe every month, so stay tuned to the blog to learn new techniques! January’s tandoor recipe is already up here.
So why did the chefs decided to go with this theme? “Everyone likes to go out for a great meal, but we also wanted to showcase how easily these techniques can be accessed by home cooks too. So we’ve created an interesting calendar that includes kebabs, dimsums, chaat, pizza, biriyani, and healthy super-bowls as well,” says Chef Sheetharam, Executive Chef at GRT Hotels & Resorts.

But while we’re GReaT with our food, we also know how to throw a fabulous party. To ring in the year in style, our events team set the ball rolling on a grand White Brunch hosted at the Grand Chennai by GRT Hotels.
At the cost of blowing our own trumpet a little bit, what a fantastic party it was! Entering the ballroom felt like walking into a white wonderland, all the guests glimmering in their beautiful white outfits. The housekeeping teams brought out their finest whites – linen, flowers, décor, cutlery. The chefs brought their best food game – live counters including tandoor, salt block cooking, steaming, nitrogen freezing, molecular gastronomy!

And, that wasn’t even the highlight of the show! In a move that surprised everyone, the screen on the stage split, fireworks began going off, and out came Mr. Vikram Cotah (COO, GRT Hotels & Resorts) holding in his hand the calendar! Needless to say, the crowd was bewildered and impressed with this grand entry.
This was followed by celebrities walking the ramp, introducing each month’s cooking technique. We’re so grateful for their unwavering support!
The audience was charmed by RJ Jane’s super-enthusiastic interaction and games, as well as the glorious serenading from singer Aishwarya, as everyone tucked into dishes that gave them a glimpse of all the food trends we’re looking forward to in 2017.
